Citizen Nationalism(Flag Raising Behavior During August)

Abstrak

This article aims to examine the raising of the Red and White Flag as a form of citizen nationalism, especially in the commemoration of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia. With a qualitative and descriptive approach, data was obtained through literature studies and observations of community behavior at that moment. Based on the results of the research that has been done, the following conclusions were drawn: a) The raising of the Red and White flag on every August 17th commemoration is part of respect and appreciation for the struggle of the heroes and a sign of gratitude of citizens for the blessing of independence, b) The meaning of raising the Red and White flag includes a sense of nationalism, caring and being part of the Republic of Indonesia, the spirit to instill national values in oneself and one's family, and c) Challenges faced in fostering nationalism are the negative influence of social media, apathy towards state symbols, lack of national education and love of the homeland in schools and efforts to foster nationalism, namely the need to revitalize the education system by integrating national values and nationalism in the curriculum, education and socialization related to nationalism in social media, involvement of veterans and fighters and encouraging active community participation
