This study examines the enforcement of law in a murder case that occurred on January 1, 2005, at a bar in Jakarta, which attracted public attention. The perpetrator, a public figure, was charged with intentional murder and illegal possession of firearms after shooting a bar waiter. The legal proceedings at the Central Jakarta District Court featured key witnesses and physical evidence, and attracted special attention from President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who instructed that the law be enforced transparently and thoroughly. Although the sentence handed down was lighter than the prosecutor's demand, this case serves as an important example of law enforcement in cases of serious crime in Indonesia. This analysis highlights the mechanisms of law enforcement, the dynamics of the trial, and the social implications of the case, while also pointing out challenges in the criminal justice process, such as witness dynamics and the appeals process.
