This study aims to analyze the factors inhibiting the reading ability of second-grade students at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru and to identify the efforts made by teachers to overcome these barriers. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of two second-grade teachers and sixteen students experiencing reading difficulties. The findings reveal that the inhibiting factors are divided into internal and external factors. Internal factors include low interest and motivation in reading, limited mastery of letters and sounds (phonemic awareness), difficulties in reading words and sentences, and low comprehension of reading materials. External factors involve the lack of family support for literacy activities at home, less varied teaching strategies, and limited supporting facilities at school. Efforts made by teachers to address these issues include providing individual tutoring, applying the phonics method and engaging learning media, giving special motivation to students, and collaborating with parents to guide reading activities at home. This study emphasizes that improving reading skills requires an integrated approach involving teachers, parents, and adequate learning facilities.
