The low level of student activeness in learning Arabic remains a challenge at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah level, including in grade V of SDIT Al Madinah Pekanbaru. Students tend to be passive, less involved in discussions, and not yet optimal in asking questions, answering, and taking notes. To overcome this problem, one of the alternatives that can be applied is the role-playing method. This study aims to determine whether the role-playing method can improve students’ learning activeness and how its implementation works in Arabic language learning at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah level. This research was a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of the research were 23 students of grade V at SDIT Al Madinah Pekanbaru. Data were collected using observation sheets with activeness indicators such as participation in discussions, the courage to ask questions, the ability to answer teachers’ questions, and consistency in taking notes. The results showed that the role-playing method was effective in increasing students’ learning activeness. In the first cycle, students’ activeness began to improve although it was not yet evenly distributed, while in the second cycle, students’ activeness increased more significantly. The percentage of student activeness in the second cycle reached 80% to 88%. Thus, the role-playing method proved to be effective in enhancing students’ learning activeness in Arabic language learning.
