This study examines the relationship between tourism activities and ritual practices at Pura Luhur Uluwatu, Bali, as a reflection of the interaction between modernization and efforts to maintain the spiritual values of the local community. Uluwatu Temple, which belongs to the Sad Kahyangan group, currently serves a dual role as a spiritual site and an international tourist destination. Using a qualitative approach through literature review, this study examines various secondary sources such as journals, books, and official documents to analyze the social and cultural impacts of tourism growth on the temple's sacredness. The findings indicate that the surge in tourism activities, particularly through Kecak Dance performances and economic activities around the temple, has driven a process of cultural commodification that can blur the boundaries between sacred areas and the ordinary world. Despite this, the local community continues to demonstrate cultural resilience by implementing the principles of Tri Hita Karana and a customary-based management system to maintain a balance between economic interests and spiritual values. This study emphasizes the importance of collaboration between the government, temple managers, and indigenous communities in realizing sustainable tourism management and respecting the sanctity of cultural spaces. These findings are expected to guide the development of a tourism model based on local wisdom, harmonizing economic, cultural, and spiritual aspects. Furthermore, this research also provides a theoretical contribution to understanding the relationship between commercialization and cultural preservation in sacred spaces. The findings can serve as a basis for further studies on the changing spiritual values of Balinese society amidst the phenomenon of tourism globalization.
