Academic anxiety is one of the psychological problems frequently experienced by university students due to academic demands, evaluations, and expectations that must be fulfilled. Academic self-concept is considered an important psychological factor that may influence students' levels of academic anxiety. This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-academic concept and academic anxiety among university students in Surabaya. This research employed a quantitative correlational design involving 135 active university students in Surabaya selected through convenience sampling. Academic anxiety was measured using the Academic Anxiety Scale (AAS), while self-academic concept was measured using the Academic Self-Concept Questionnaire (ASCQ). Data were analyzed using Spearman correlation because the data were not normally distributed. The results showed a significant negative relationship between self-academic concept and academic anxiety (r = -0.414; p < 0.001). These findings indicate that students with higher self-academic concept tend to experience lower levels of academic anxiety. Therefore, strengthening self-academic concept may serve as an important strategy to reduce academic anxiety among university students.
