The growing public awareness of green living movements has been utilized by corporations as a market opportunity, yet it has triggered the rise of greenwashing practices through misleading ecological claims. Such practices undermine the assurance of consumer rights in green economic activities. This study aims to examine the legal protection available for consumers harmed by greenwashing and to analyze corporate civil liability from the perspective of Law No. 8 of 1999 on Consumer Protection and the Indonesian Civil Code. The research employs a normative juridical method through doctrinal library research with qualitative analysis. The findings reveal that the most appropriate form of legal protection for consumers in daily goods transactions is external legal protection, considering the absence of formal agreements (internal protection) that place consumers in an unequal bargaining position. Corporate civil liability for consumer losses may be pursued through tort claims (Perbuatan Melawan Hukum) under Article 1365 of the Civil Code, based on elements of fault and causality. Forms of civil liability applicable in this context include restoration to the original state (natura), monetary compensation (inatura), and court orders to cease the dissemination of misleading information. This study recommends regulatory reform concerning strict standardization and certification of environmentally friendly product claims to strengthen preventive legal protection for consumers.
